James Gunn, co-head of DC Studios, is setting the stage for a more interconnected DC Universe by directly tying his Superman film to the upcoming Peacemaker Season 2—and he’s already laying the groundwork for the next chapter in the “Superman Saga.”
Gunn revealed that Peacemaker Season 2 will serve as a narrative continuation of Superman, making the events of the movie essential viewing for fans who want to follow the DCU storyline in full. The new season will include cameos from Superman characters and expand on the film’s themes, positioning the series as a key link between DC’s movies and television projects.
John Cena returns as the irreverent anti-hero Christopher Smith, bringing his signature mix of comedy and action. Gunn also confirmed that the season will introduce fresh faces and build toward major DCU developments.
In addition, Gunn has completed a detailed treatment for the next installment of the “Superman Saga.” While he hasn’t officially labeled it Superman 2, the follow-up will feature Superman in a central role and could begin production sooner than expected.
The announcement comes as DC Studios continues to roll out its “Chapter One: Gods and Monsters” lineup, which includes:
- Peacemaker Season 2 – Premieres August 21, 2025
- Supergirl – Scheduled for mid-2026
- Clayface – A horror-inspired project set for late 2026
- Lanterns – A Green Lantern-themed series in development
- A new Wonder Woman movie in the works
At this year’s Comic-Con, Peacemaker Season 2 made waves with teasers featuring multiverse sequences and nods to the Superman storyline. Meanwhile, Gunn’s Superman film has surpassed $560 million globally, proving the reboot’s box office power and reinforcing DC’s new interconnected vision.
