Gboard Adds “Autofill with Google” Shortcut for Faster Password and Payment Access

August 2025 – Google is rolling out a new Gboard feature designed to make logging in and making online payments quicker and more seamless. The “Autofill with Google” shortcut gives users direct access to saved passwords and payment methods without leaving their current app.

How It Works

Once enabled in the keyboard settings, a small “Autofill” icon appears in Gboard’s toolbar or suggestions strip. Tapping it opens two quick-access options:

  • Passwords – Instantly shows login details saved in Google Password Manager for the active app.
  • Payment Methods – Displays stored payment cards, with a CVV prompt required before use for added security.

This eliminates the need to wait for autofill prompts to appear or to switch to a separate password manager app.

Availability

  • The feature is currently in beta, available in Gboard version 15.7.5 and above.
  • Requires Google Play Services version 25.30 or later.
  • Works only with Google Password Manager at this stage, with no third-party manager support yet.

Why It Matters

The update improves both speed and convenience for everyday mobile tasks, particularly for people who frequently log in to accounts or make purchases on the go. The extra CVV step for payments strikes a balance between usability and security.

With this move, Gboard is positioning itself as more than just a typing tool — it’s becoming a central hub for quick, secure access to personal data.
