Instagram, one of the world’s largest social media platforms, is increasingly being misused by thousands of public accounts that post explicit adult videos. Shockingly, over 100,000 such accounts are actively sharing these videos openly.
A large number of these pages and groups are reportedly active from India, making this issue even more widespread.
There are two disturbing trends happening right now:
- Groups with Mixed-Age Members: Many public groups include underage kids alongside adults, where hundreds of explicit videos are shared daily. This exposes children to harmful content, which is unacceptable.
- Public Pages Using Timer Videos: Some pages post videos with a countdown timer. Once the timer ends, the video switches to explicit adult content. This deceptive method makes it easier for explicit material to slip through Instagram’s content controls.
Worse still, some groups reportedly contain child exploitation material, which is illegal and horrifying.
This situation is deeply troubling for the entire Instagram community. Parents need to be vigilant — if you notice timer videos or suspicious content on your child’s Instagram, it’s a serious warning sign. They could be exposed to or participating in viewing adult content like many others.
We call on Meta and Instagram to urgently strengthen their moderation policies and take strict action against these accounts to protect users, especially minors.
Instagram should be a safe place for all — not a platform where explicit content is easily accessible.
