Nintendo Restructures Entertainment Division, Launches “Nintendo Stars” for Film Expansion

Date: August 27, 2025

Nintendo has officially restructured its entertainment division, transforming its subsidiary Warpstar into Nintendo Stars Inc., a move that underscores the company’s growing commitment to film production.

From Games to the Big Screen

The rebranding follows the blockbuster success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which earned more than a billion dollars worldwide and cemented Nintendo’s presence in the movie industry. With Nintendo Stars, the company aims to centralize all activities related to film projects, including licensing, coordination, and creative oversight, ensuring its characters and stories transition smoothly from gaming consoles to theaters.

Expanding the Nintendo Universe

Upcoming projects already in the works include a highly anticipated Super Mario Bros. sequel and a live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda. The newly formed Nintendo Stars will be responsible for managing these projects, as well as potential future adaptations of other beloved franchises like Kirby, Donkey Kong, and Star Fox.

Building a Media Powerhouse

Nintendo has been steadily broadening its entertainment footprint. In 2022, it launched Nintendo Pictures, an in-house animation studio designed to bring its iconic franchises to life through cinematic storytelling. Now, with Nintendo Stars handling the business and operational side of film development, the company is building a strong ecosystem that spans both gaming and cinema.

Why This Matters

  • A Clear Commitment: Nintendo is no longer dabbling in film—it’s building a dedicated structure to support long-term success.
  • New Opportunities for Fans: Classic characters may finally get the chance to shine outside of gaming.
  • Cultural Impact: Nintendo is positioning itself not only as a gaming leader but as a global entertainment powerhouse.
