Perseid Meteor Shower 2025 Dazzles Despite Bright Moonlight

The 2025 Perseid Meteor Shower peaked on the night of August 12–13, offering a stunning celestial show that defied challenging viewing conditions. Known for its vivid “shooting stars,” the annual event lit up the skies even as an 84% illuminated waning gibbous moon cast a strong glow.

Although moonlight usually reduces visibility, many skywatchers still enjoyed between 10 and 20 meteors per hour. The brightest Perseids—some leaving glowing trails or appearing as fireballs—were able to cut through the lunar glare, creating moments of breathtaking beauty.

The best viewing took place in the early morning hours, particularly around 3 to 4 a.m., when the constellation Perseus was high in the sky. Enthusiasts who traveled to dark, open areas away from city lights and allowed their eyes to adjust to the darkness had the most rewarding experiences.

While the peak night has passed, the Perseid Meteor Shower continues until late August. As the Moon wanes, skywatchers can expect improved conditions for spotting more meteors in the coming days, making it worth looking up for another chance at witnessing this spectacular natural show.
