SpaceX added 28 new satellites to its Starlink constellation on Sunday morning, further cementing its dominance in satellite internet technology. The launch took place from Cape Canaveral, Florida, where a Falcon 9 rocket carried the payload into low Earth orbit.
Mission Overview
The mission, completed in just over an hour, was highlighted by the successful recovery of the Falcon 9 first-stage booster. Known as Booster 1077, it completed its 23rd flight before landing on the autonomous drone ship Just Read the Instructions in the Atlantic Ocean. This marks SpaceX’s 497th successful booster recovery, underscoring the company’s mastery of rocket reusability.
Growing Starlink Constellation
With this addition, Starlink now consists of more than 8,280 active satellites. Since the program’s inception in 2019, over 9,500 satellites have been launched, with most currently operational. The service continues to expand high-speed internet coverage worldwide, with a particular focus on underserved regions.
A Record-Breaking Year
So far in 2025, SpaceX has completed 112 missions, 108 of which used the Falcon 9 rocket. The majority of these flights have been dedicated to Starlink deployment, maintaining a rapid launch cadence unmatched by any other space company.
