Warwick Davis Returns to Hogwarts as Professor Flitwick in HBO’s New Harry Potter Series

September 1, 2025

Warwick Davis is making a magical return to Hogwarts in the upcoming HBO television adaptation of Harry Potter. He will reprise his role as Professor Filius Flitwick—the Charms master he portrayed throughout the original film series—marking the first confirmed return of an original cast member.

A Familiar Face in a Fresh Take

At 55, Davis slips back into the robes of Professor Flitwick, bringing both charm and continuity to the new series. This time, he’ll focus solely on the role of Flitwick. The goblin Griphook, previously doubled by Davis, will instead be played by Leigh Gill.

Several other familiar and new characters have been cast, including:

  • Sirine Saba as Professor Pomona Sprout (Herbology)
  • Bríd Brennan as Madam Poppy Pomfrey (Hogwarts matron)
  • Richard Durden as Professor Cuthbert Binns (History of Magic)
  • Students: Elijah Oshin (Dean Thomas), Finn Stephens (Vincent Crabbe), and William Nash (Gregory Goyle)

Among the younger cast, Dominic McLaughlin takes on the role of Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton plays Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout portrays Ron Weasley. The ensemble also includes John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as Snape, Nick Frost as Hagrid, Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, and Bel Powley as Petunia Dursley.

When and How It’s Made

Filming began in July 2025 at Leavesden Studios, the very location where much of the original films were shot. The series is helmed by showrunner Francesca Gardiner and directed in part by Mark Mylod, with key producers including J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, and David Heyman.

Viewers can expect the series to arrive on HBO in early 2027, billed as a faithful and richly detailed adaptation of Rowling’s seven-book saga.
