WhatsApp Unveils AI-Powered Writing Assistant for Enhanced Messaging

August 29, 2025 — WhatsApp has introduced a new artificial intelligence feature called “Writing Help,” aimed at improving the clarity, tone, and style of messages within the app. This tool provides users with suggestions to refine their messages, making communication more effective and professional.

Key Features of Writing Help:

  • Tone and Style Adjustments: Users can receive suggestions to modify the tone of their messages, such as making them more formal, humorous, supportive, or correcting grammatical errors.
  • Private Processing: To ensure user privacy, the feature utilizes WhatsApp’s proprietary “Private Processing” technology. This system encrypts user inputs and processes them anonymously, meaning that neither WhatsApp nor Meta can access or store the content of the messages.
  • User Control: The feature is optional and can be activated by users in the app settings. Once enabled, a pencil-shaped icon appears next to the text input field, allowing users to request suggestions for their messages.
  • No Traceability: The AI-generated suggestions are returned directly to the user’s device without leaving a digital footprint, ensuring that the content remains private and untraceable.

Availability:

The Writing Help feature is currently rolling out in English for both Android and iOS users in the United States and other countries. However, users in Israel will have to wait, as there is no announced launch date for Hebrew or local availability.

This move positions WhatsApp alongside other messaging platforms like Telegram, Microsoft, and Google, which have integrated AI writing tools to enhance user experience while maintaining privacy standards. If successful and expanded globally, WhatsApp’s Writing Help could redefine how users compose everyday messages, especially in professional or non-native language contexts.
