August 29, 2025 — YouTube Music is rolling out a significant update to its Android app, enhancing user experience by relocating the search function to the bottom navigation bar. This change aims to improve accessibility, particularly for users with larger smartphones.
Streamlined Access to Search
Previously, the search icon was positioned in the top-right corner of the screen. In the latest design, this icon has been moved to the bottom bar, replacing the “Explore” tab. Users can now access the search feature with a simple tap, facilitating easier one-handed navigation.
Familiar Interface with Minor Adjustments
Despite the change in layout, the core functionality remains consistent. The search page mirrors the former “Explore” section, featuring categories like “New releases,” “Charts,” “Mood & genres,” and “Podcasts.” A prominent search bar at the top allows users to find songs, artists, and podcasts, with added shortcuts for voice and song lookup.
Enhancing User Experience
This redesign addresses user feedback regarding the reachability of the search function on larger devices. By positioning the search icon within thumb’s reach, YouTube Music aims to streamline the music discovery process, making it more intuitive and convenient for users.
Gradual Rollout
The new interface is being introduced gradually, with availability varying across different devices and regions. Users may need to wait for the update to reach their specific account.
