In a heart-stopping turn of events, Whitey, a senior dog living at Ziggy’s Refuge Farm Sanctuary (ZRFS), found himself in a perilous situation when he became trapped in a thick mud pit on the farm. For hours, Whitey struggled to free himself, his efforts going unnoticed until a faint “squish” sound alerted his human guardians, Kristin Hartness and Jay Yontz, to his distress.
A Sudden Realization
It was a typical afternoon at the sanctuary when Kristin and Jay realized they hadn’t seen Whitey for several hours. After accounting for all 100 animals on their 110-acre farm, they grew concerned. Their search led them to a distant corner of the property, where Kristin heard the faint sound of something struggling.
Discovery and Rescue
Upon investigating, they discovered Whitey, chest-deep in the mud, exhausted from his futile attempts to escape. Kristin tried to pull him out, but his strength had waned. Jay arrived just in time to assist, lifting Whitey from the muck and bringing him to safety.
A New Beginning
Whitey had once lived alone in a barn, serving as a protector for the animals. When Kristin and Jay took over the farm in 2017, they welcomed him into their home, providing him with the love and companionship he had never known. Since then, Whitey has become an inseparable part of their family, following them everywhere and bringing joy to all who meet him.
Community and Gratitude
The rescue of Whitey has touched the hearts of many, highlighting the importance of attentiveness and compassion in caring for animals. Ziggy’s Refuge Farm Sanctuary continues to be a haven for animals in need, and Whitey’s story serves as a reminder of the profound bond between humans and their animal companions.
