President Trump Announces 2025 Kennedy Center Honorees with a Personal Touch

President Donald Trump has unveiled the list of recipients for the 2025 Kennedy Center Honors, putting his own stamp on one of the nation’s most prestigious cultural events. In a move that breaks from the traditionally apolitical nature of the ceremony, Trump emphasized that he was directly involved in selecting this year’s honorees—stating that he had a hand in “98 percent” of the choices and deliberately avoided nominees he considered “too woke.”

A Star-Studded List of Honorees

The five individuals and groups being recognized this year are:

  • George Strait – Country music legend celebrated for decades of chart-topping hits and charitable work.
  • Michael Crawford – Acclaimed Broadway star, best known for originating the role of the Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera.
  • Gloria Gaynor – Disco icon whose hit “I Will Survive” remains a cultural anthem.
  • KISS – The legendary rock band known for their theatrical performances and enduring influence.
  • Sylvester Stallone – Actor, writer, and director famous for the Rocky and Rambo franchises, as well as his outspoken support for Trump.

Breaking Tradition by Hosting the Event

For the first time in the ceremony’s history, the sitting president will personally host the gala. Scheduled to air in December, Trump compared the role to hosting The Apprentice finales and expressed confidence that the event will be one of the most memorable in its history.

A New Era for the Kennedy Center

Since assuming control of the Kennedy Center earlier this year, Trump has reshaped its leadership, replacing the board of trustees with his own appointees and appointing Richard Grenell as interim executive director. He has also initiated plans for extensive renovations, including replacing all interior seating, with funding approved by Congress.

Trump has even floated the idea of renaming parts of the Kennedy Center after himself or First Lady Melania Trump, a suggestion that has sparked debate among cultural and political figures.

A Cultural Shift in a National Institution

The 2025 Kennedy Center Honors mark a clear shift in tone and approach, with selections reflecting Trump’s personal tastes and cultural priorities. Whether embraced or criticized, his influence has undeniably transformed the event into a showcase of both American artistry and presidential personality.
